Well, the people that I went with and I decided that we didn´t want to spend the extra money to go the extra distance, so we decided to take a water taxi to some beaches to the North. It was beautiful! For $12.50 round-trip, we had a boat take us to a beach about an hour North. From there we hiked along the coast to a beach where no one else was at.... our own private beach!
The hike there and back was a bit of an adventure. When we arrived, it was around Noon and the tide was out, so we could somewhat easily cross this particular part of the beach (see picture #1). But, two hours later when we decided to come back, it was a bit of a different story (see picture #2). All-in-all it was a great adventure and I really enjoyed being able to have Seth and Sarah with me as we battled the waves to cross over the the other side. :)

I really didn´t realize how much I had needed a break away from everything. I think sometimes I really get into the North American mindset that I have to be busy all of the time. I kept on saying “Praise Jesus for the beach”, “Praise Jesus for the sun”, “Praise Jesus for the weather”. I´m sure Seth and Sarah thought I was quite strange for continually saying things like that, but I was seriously overwhelmed that God created something this beautiful and that I was allowed to enjoy it. I am so blessed!

At any rate, back to the story about the turtles. So, we spend the day at the beach and the water taxi came back to get us around 4:00 p.m. The captain asked if it would be ok if he and his family fished on the way home so that they could make fish soup for dinner. Not that we really had a choice, because they already had the line in the water, but we of course said sure! We were in no rush to get back.
So we watched them catch a few good sized fish, and all of a sudden Seth saw something in the water. It looked like it was a dead turtle floating on it´s back. As we came closed, we quickly found out that it was not one dead turtle, but two turtles mating. The Nicaraguan woman said that she had lived in San Juan del Sur all her life and that she had never seen that before. It was so amazing to see. So, we didn´t get to see the turtle eggs being laid, but we got to see them getting made! I asked my mom if that is considered “Turtle Porn”, but she said no and that it was ok for me to post the pictures. :) Thanks for being my moral compass on this issue mom! :)

One day while we were there, we spent a little extra money to pay to use a pool at a resort called “The Pelican”. It was nice to swim in fresh water and not get all salty for once.
So, that was my non-work related fun for September. In regards to my work-related fun, I was quite busy with that, too!
One of the programs that I help to coordinate is called “Communication for Change” (CfC). It is an international exchange program between Acción Médica Cristiana (AMC)and FK Norway, Change Maker and the YMCA of Norway. (SOOOOO excited that it is with the YMCA... the YMCA always feels like home to me.) Change Maker sends two norwegians to five countries in the Southern Hemisphere September-December and then the Southern Countries send two people to Norway January-April. So, this last Saturday... I mean Sunday two Norwegians arrived. (Originally I thought it was Saturday, so I went to the airport and they did not arrive. So I came home and checked their flight information again only to find out that they would arrive the next day. Oops!)
Both Monday and Tuesday were holidays here to celebrate the independence of Nicaragua, so Monday I took Kaja and Kristine to hike Volcano Masaya and the the market and then I took them to Laguna de Apoyo on Tuesday. They really enjoyed it! So for this past week and the coming week I am giving them their orientation to AMC, Nicaraguan culture, safety in Central America while traveling and all-you-need-to-know to live three months in Nicaragua. They are also studying Spanish for a few weeks before heading into their field experience. I am excited to see what they learn and what I can learn from them.

Also in regards to this program, there will be a program coordinator meeting for all coordinators from each country this November 1-7 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Yep, that´s right... I had to move to Nicaragua to take a trip to Ethiopia. So crazy how God works. I am going to Ethiopia in November!!! I am super excited about the trip, but I do feel a little bad. My Nicaraguan host mom (with whom I lived for 5 months) has always wanted to go to Africa to do missions work, but just never had the money to do so and support her family in Nicaragua at the same time. So, when I told her, she was excited but a little sad, too. So, I am hoping to find her a good gift while I´m there. Pray for something amazing that would touch her heart, but within my budget. I never would have thought I would travel to Africa, but I´m sure that God has a reason for it! I trust in him!

God´s wisdom. I have been thinking a bit about wisdom specifically for the last few months. Being in Nicaragua daily challenges me. I learn humility every single day. I learn patience even more frequently than that! God is constantly renewing my sense of who I am. In Grand Rapids, I worked at the YMCA. I was the Health and Wellness Director and the DDH YMCA. I was taking continuing education to learn Spanish to help out members of the YMCA. I was surrounding myself in the Latin culture. I learned latin dancing. My identity was in what I did at the YMCA and what I wanted to do the YMCA. Although I daily sought God, I relied a lot on my own knowledge and my own plans. That was pride and God knew that I needed to learn a bit about humility.
The funny thing is, if you would have asked me back in Grand Rapids if I were a humble person, I think I would have said yes, and I think my friends and family would have mostly agreed. One of the great things about God, is that He knows the inner most thoughts of our being. I didn´t even realize the pride I had in feeling like “I owned the city” or that “I owned the Y”. It wasn´t that I verbally said those things or even thought them, but I showed it with my actions. I was confident in what I did and I thought I did it well. That very well may have been true, but God knew that I needed to be humbled. And, what better thing to do than to toss me into an environment that is completely foreign where I would have to completely rediscover who I really am in Christ. :)
I am so thankful that every day I learn patience. I was reading in James 1:1-11 this past week and one of the verses in that section talks about letting “patience do it´s good work”. Well, as I am humbled daily and my own perceptions of myself are challenge here in Nicaragua, I am having to be patient not only with others, but also with myself. As a person with high expectations for herself, this is really hard to do. To allow patience to do it´s good work... What does that mean exactly? ... How do I apply it to my life? ...How do I know when patience has completed it´s good work in me? So many questions... I guess I will just have to have patience and wait and find out. But for now, I know that God is blessing me with the opportunity to rediscover who I am in Him by letting patience do it´s good work... and yes the bible does say GOOD work. I don´t think that patience could ever result in a bad work. Bad works come out of complacency, which goes well beyond patience into stagnation.
I pray that God continues His good work in you this day!

¡Yo vi dos tortugas acoplamentando! (Espero que esta bien para decir eso así. Yo no se como decirlo exactamente. Disclpe si yo ofendía alguien.)
Si, ustedes me oyeren bien, yo vi dos tortugas teniendo sexo! Hace unas semanas yo fui a San Juan del Sur, cual es una comunidad por el Mar Pacifico de que es un lugar muy popular para ir y disfrutar la playa. También, algo muy popular para hacer es ir a las playas del Sur o cruzar la frontera a Costa Rica para ver las tortugas dejando los huevos muy noche. Pues, la gente con quien yo fui y yo decidimos de que no querríamos gastar tanto dinero para ir la distancia extra. Entonces, decidimos tomar un taxi acuático para ir a unas playas al norte. ¡Fue bonita! Por U$12.50 ir de vuelta, tuvimos un taxi llevarnos a una playa un poco más de una hora al norte. DE allá caminamos cerca de la costa pacifica don´de no hubo nadie más... nuestra propria Playa!
La escalera para llegar y regresar fueron un gran aventura. Cuando llegamos, fue cerca del mediodía y el TIDE, entonces, podríamos fácilmente cruzar el parte particularmente buena de la playa (Photo #1). Pero, después de dos horas decidimos regresar a la otra playa... y este parte fue una historia diferente (Photo #2). Por la mayoría fue un gran aventura y me disfrutó mucho para pasar tiempo con Seth y Sarah por esta aventura mientras luchamos con las olas cruzar al otro lado. :)
No me di cuenta cuanto yo necesitaba una pausa afuera de todo. Pienso que aveces yo llego a la paradigma de mi mente que es muy norte americana... de que necesito estar ocupada todo los días. Yo continuaba diciendo “Gracias a Jesús por la playa”, “Gracias a Jesús por el sol”, Gracias a Jesús por el tiempo y temperatura”. Estoy segura que Seth y Sarah pensaron de que fui muy extrañe para decir continuamente diciendo cosas así. Pero, de veraz fue casí demasiado por mi misma de que Dios creó algo tan bonito como eso y de que yo puedo disfrutarlo. ¡Tengo muchas bendiciones!

Pues, regreso a la historia de lat tortugas. Entonces, pasamos el día en la playa y el tazi regresó a las 4 de la tarde. El capitan del taxi nos pidió si esté bien si el y su familia pescaría en el camino de regresar para hacer sopa de pez por la cena. No que Teniamos una opción, porque ya estaban pescando, pero nosotros a el le dicimos claro que si! No tuvimos prisa para regresar.
Entonces, a ellos les miramos coger los pescados, y de repente Seth vio algo en el agua. Parece como una tortuga muerta flotando en la espalda. Como se cercamos, nos dimos cuenta de que no fue una tortuga muerta, sino dos tortugas acoplanentando. La Nicaragüense dijo que nunca había visto algo así y ella había vivido en San Juan del Sur todo su vida. Fue increíble. Entonces, no vimos tortugas poniendo los huevos por la arena, pero nos vimos los huevos eran hecho. Yo pedí mi madre si ella consideró la foto pornografía de tortuga, pero ella me dijo que no, esta bien para poner las fotos en mi blog. :) Gracias madre para ser mi compás moral en este asunto! :)

Entonces, así son las cosas de diversión de mi vida personal en septiembre. ¡Con respeto a la diversión de mi vida de trabajo, yo estaba muy ocupada con eso también!
Ayudo con una programa se llama “Communication for Change” (CfC). Es una programa de intercambio internacional entre Acción Médica Cristiana (AMC) y FK Noruega, Change Maker y la YMCA de Noruega. (QUe excelente de que es con la YMCA... la YMCA siempre me siente como hogar.) Change Maker manda dos noruegos(as) a cinco países en el hemisferio meridional entre septiembre y diciembre y después los países del Sur manda dos personas a Noruega entre enero y abril. Entonces, el sábado pasado... pues, el domingo pasado dos noruegas llegaron. (Originalmente, yo pensé que llegarán el sábado, entonces, yo fui al aeropuerto yy no llegaron. Pues, regresé a casa para chequear la información de su vuelo otra vez solamente para darme cuenta de que llegarán el proximo día. Oops!)
El lunes y el martes de la semana pasada estuvieron feriados para celebrar el día de independencia de Nicaragua, entonces, el lunes yo llevé las noruegas para subir el Volcan Masay y después fuimos al mercado artesanía. El martes fuimos a Laguna de Apoyo. ¡Se disfrutaron mucho! por la semana pasada y por la semana que viene voy a capacitarlas a AMC, la cultura de Nicaragua, como estar sano en América Central mientras viajar y do todo-lo-que-necesitan-saber para vivir 3 meses en Nicaragua. Están en escuela de español por unas semanas antes de viajar a los proyectos. Estoy emocionada para ver que ella aprenderías y para ver lo que yo podía aprender de ellas.

Con respeto este programa, habrá una reunión de las coordinadores de cada país el 1-7 de noviembre de 2009 en Addis Ababa, Etiopía. Si, es correcto.... Tuve que mudarme a Nicaragua para hacer un viaje a Etiopía. Tan loco como trabaja Dios. ¡¡¡Voy a ir a Etiopía en noviembre!!! Estoy súper emocionada sobre este viaje, pero me siento un poco mal. Mi mamá nicaragüense (con quien yo vivía por 5 meses) ella siempre había querido viajar a Africa para hacer trabajo misionero, pero nunca había tenido el dinero para hacerlos y apoyar su familia en Nicaragua en los mismo tiempo. Entonces, cuando le dije, ella estuvo emocionada por mi pero un poco triste, también. Espero que podía encontrar un regalito por ella cuando yo estoy allá. Ora por algo muy bella de que tocaría su corazón, pero adentro de mis fondos disponibles. ¡Nunca hubiera pensaba que viajaré a Africa, pero estoy segura que Dios tiene un razón! ¡Tengo confianza en el!

La sabiduría de Dios. Yo he estado pensando un poco sobre la sabiduría específicamente por los recientes meses. Aprendo humildad cada día. ¡Aprendo paciencia mucho más frecuentemente que eso! Constantemente Dios esta renoviendome en el sentido de quien soy yo. En Grand Rapids, trabajaba por el YMCA. Yo era la Directora de Salud y Bienestar en la YMCA de DDH. Tomaba clases de educación continua para aprender español para apoyar los miembros de la YMCA. Me rodeaba con la cultura latina. Aprendí el baile latino. Mi identidad fue en lo que yo he hecho en la YMCA y los que yo había querido hacer en la YMCA. Aunque, yo buscaba Dios diariamente, confié en mi misma conocimiento y mi misma planes. Eso fue orgullo y Dios sabía de que yo necesitaba aprender un poco de humildad.
La chista es, si me hubieras preguntado cuando estaba en Grand Rapids si yo era una persona de humildad, pienso que hubiera dicho que si, y creo que mi familia y mis amigos hubieran estado de acuerdo más o menos. Una de las gran cosas de Dios, es de que Él sabe los pensamientos más internamente de nosotros. No me di cuenta el orgullo tenía de sentir como “soy la dueña de la ciudad” o de que “soy la dueña de la YMCA”. No fue de que yo dije las cosas así o tan como yo las pensé, pero las enseñaba de mis acciones. Yo tenía confianza en los que hacía y pensaba de que lo había hecho bien. Hay un posibilidad que eso es verdad, pero Dio sabía que yo necesitaba ser humillado. Y, que cosas mejor para hacer que para lanzarme en un ambiente que es completamente extrañe, donde yo haya redescurbar quien soy yo en Cristo. :)
Agradezco de que cada día aprendo paciencia. La semana pasada yo leí en Santiago 1:1-11 y unos de los versículos dice dejar “Paciencia su buen trabajo”. Bueno, como recibo humildad diariamente y mis propias percepciones están desafiadas aquí en Nicaragua, tengo que tener paciencia no sólo con otras, pero también con mi misma. Como una persona con alta auto-expectativas, para hacer eso es muy difícil . Para dejar paciencia para hacer su buen trabajo... ¿Que significa es eso exactamente? ... ¿Como aplicarlo a mi vida? ...¿Como yo sabrá cuando paciencia ha completado su buen trabajo dentro de mi? Muchas preguntas... Creo que sólo necesitaría tener paciencia, esperanza para ver. Pero por ahora mismo, yo se de que Dios esta bendiciendome con la oportunidad para redescurbar quien soy yo en Él por dejando la paciencia hacer su buen trabajo... y si, la Biblia dice BUEN trabajo. No pienso que la paciencia puede resultar en MAL trabajo. Mal trabajo viene de satisfacción personal, cual vaya más allá de paciencia en el estancamiento.
¡Oro que Dios continua su buen trabajo en ti este día!
