It´s official….(es official…)

I´m a graduate of Eastern University of Pennsylvania with a Masters in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in International Development.  My mom and I took a road trip to PA for my masters graduation.  Let me just tell all of you that that the Pennsylvania Turnpike is the road that never ends and also has eternal road construction.  I always thought that the Ohio Turnpike was the worst, but no.  Hands down, PA wins that award.  J

My mom and I had a really nice time, even with the long PA Turnpike.  In fact, on that Turnpike was where I had a phone interview with the University of Notre Dame (more on that later).  On the way to campus we stopped by Lancaster to visit some good friends from Nicaragua, the Forry family.  We were able to spend time with them at two of their sons graduations from pre-school.  After that we went to a great dinner at a Dominican Restaurant and then spent some time visiting at their house.  LOVED spending time with them and can´t wait till our next visit.

We then headed to our hotel in the city of King of Prussia, which is a town that apparently has the second largest mall in the US, which yes, we did visit it.  J  It is also located not too far from Eastern´s campus.  The next morning (Friday) when we went down to the lobby of the hotel I ran into two of my classmates, Hector and Elbin.  I was so excited that I was going on and on.  J

Once on campus we had a breakfast with the Organizational Leadership cohorts from Latin America (the program I was in) and from Africa (Uganda).  It was great to meet the group from the other cohort and learn about their experiences.  After the breakfast we had a tour of campus and then we headed to Philly for a quick tour.

Saturday morning, May 12 was graduation day.  My mom and I had breakfast at the hotel and then went to the Corner Bakery for coffee and them did some shopping at the second largest mall in the US.  J  Then, we met up with my fellow-graduates from the Latin American program and we headed to campus.  It was a beautiful ceremony.  I had tears in my eyes many times in thinking about everything that I had been through the previous two years to get to that moment of graduation.

My dad, brother, sister-in-law and their kids were watching the ceremony online through a live weblink.  After the ceremony I called my dad to let him know that it was official and he asked me why I was talking throughout the whole ceremony.  Apparently whenever they put the camera on me I was talking.  I laughed when my dad told me that because I was actually translating for two of my Spanish-speaking classmates.  I wonder what other people were thinking when they saw that video.  Hehehe.

To celebrate that evening my mom, myself and our friend Begoña, who works for Eastern and helped with logistics for our stay, went to The Cheescake Factory for dinner.  The food was incredible and the company was amazing.  What a blessing the whole weekend was.

Other things I´ve been up to:

Spending time with my niece and nephew.  My niece Elisha and I had a special afternoon when we went and had a picnic on an island park and then went and played miniature golf.    I also went to a t-ball game of hers.

Other news and prayer request:

As I mentioned previously, I had my first interview with the University of Notre Dame on the side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.  It went well and the University Relations Representative told me that she would absolutely recommend me for the next round.  So, last week I received a call confirming that I will be getting an interview.  I´m really excited.  The position would be working with International Alumni.  As I´ve been researching the University and the position potential, there have been many times that I´ve teared-up at the possibility of working with ND.  Although I grew up in the area of this University, I knew mostly of the sports aspect.  Yes, I knew that it was a Catholic University.  What I am finding out as I am researching is that it is a service centered academic institution that really does have a focus on justice that is oriented in Christ.

I´m really excited about this opportunity, so please be praying.  I know that God has all things in his hands and that what is supposed to happen will happen.  I will for sure keep you posted on how everything goes.

LA VERSION EN ESPAÑOL:

Estoy graduada de la Universidad de Eastern del estado de Pennsylvania (PA) con una maestría en Liderazgo Organizacional concentrado en Desarrollo Internacional.  Mi mamá y yo fuimos de viaje a PA para mi graduación de la maestría.  Tengo que decirles que la carretera principal de Pennsylvania es una que nunca termina y además tiene una eternidad de construcción.  Siempre habia pensado yo que la carretera del estado de Ohio era el peor, pero no.  De todo, la de PA gana el premio del peor.  J

I madre y yo disfrutamos mucho el tiempo, aún con la carretera de PA.  De hecho, en esa carretera es donde hice una entrevista por teléfono con la Universidad de Notre Dame (más sobre eso más luego).  En camino del campo de Eastern, paramos en la ciudad de Lancaster para visitar con buenos amigos mios de Nicaragua, la familia Forry.  Asistimos a la graduación pre-escolar de dos de sus niños.  Y fuimos a cenar en un restaurante dominicana y luego pasamos un tiempo visitando en su casa.   Me encantó pasar tiempo con ellos y no puedo esperar verles pronto.

Luego fuimos al hotel en la ciudad de “King of Prussia” (Rey de Prusia), lo cual está conocido por tener el centro comercial segundo más grande de los estados unidos, y si, lo visitamos.  J  Está ubicado muy cerca del campo de Eastern University.  La próxima mañana (el viernes) cuando bajamos en el ascensor del hotel a la planta baja, ví a dos de mis compañeros de clase, Héctor y Elbin.   Y estaba tan alegre que casi no podría parar hablar.  J

De llegar al campo desayunamos con los grupos de la maestría de lLiderazgo Organizacional de América Latina (el programa mio) y lo de Africa (Uganda).  Fue buenísima conocer al otro grupo y aprender de sus experiencias.  Después de compartir nuestras experiencias, fuimos a un tur de campo y luego a la ciudad del amor fraterno, Phillidelphia para un tur.

El sábado por la mañana, el 12 de mayo fue el día de graduación.  Mi madre y yo desayunamos en el hotel y luego fuimos a un restaurante que se llama “The Corner Bakery” (la panadería de la esquina), la cual es muy famosa allí, y de allá al centro comercial.  J  Pues, de allí fuimos a la graduación con mis compañeros y compañeras del programa de América Latina al campo de Eastern.  El ceremonia fue bonito.  Me salían lagrimas muchas veces de pensar en todo lo que yo había pasado para llegarme a este momento.

Mi padre, hermano, cuñada y sus niños estaban mirando la ceremonia por la Internet a través de un vinculo.    Después de la ceremonia le llamé a mi papá para decirle que estuvo oficial que me gradué y el me preguntó porque estaba hablando yo por toda la ceremonia.  Aparentemente, cada vez que el video me llegó yo estaba hablando.  Reí y expliqué a mi papá que no estaba hablando sólo para hablar sino que yo estaba traduciendo para dos compañeras de clase.  Sólo puedo imaginar que estaban pensando otra gente de mirarme hablar por toda la ceremonia.   Jejejejeje

Para celebrar mi mamá, una amiga que se llama Begoña, quien trabaja por Eastern y trabajaba con los logísticos para nosotros, y yo fuimos a cenar en un restaurante que se llama “The Cheesecake Factory” (La fábrica del pastel de queso).  La comida fue buenísima y el acompañamiento aún mejor.  Que bendición fue todo el fin de semana.

Otra cosas:

He estado pasando mucho tiempo con mi sobrinita y sobrinito.  Mi sobrina Elisha y yo pasamos una tarde especial con sólo ella y yo.  Hicimos un picnic en una isla y luego fuimos a jugar minigolf.  También fui para ver a ella a jugar béisbol.

Otra noticia y petición de oración:

Cómo ya ante mencioné, tuve la primera entrevista con la Universidad de Notre Dame por teléfono al lado de la carretera de PA.  Fue muy bien y la representativa de relaciones de la universidad me dijo que iba a recomendarme para la segunda ronda absolutamente.  Entonces, la semana pasada recibí una llamada de ella confirmando que sí, tengo la entrevista y de que la asistente administrativa me llamará para planificar la entrevista.  Estoy súper emocionada!  La plaza es para trabajar con los alumnos internacionales ya graduados.  Mientras que he estado investigando la universidad y la plaza potencial, han sido muchas veces que me han salido lagrimas sólo de pensar en la posibilidad de trabajar con ND.  Aunque yo crecía en el departamento cerca de la universidad, sólo había conocido más de los deportes de ella.  Y sabia que es una universidad católica.  Lo que estoy dándome cuenta es que es una institución académico muy centrada en el servicio que tiene su enfoque en la justicia orientada en Cristo.

Estoy súper emocionada de está oportunidad, entonces, por favor oren por mi sobre eso.  Sé que Dios tiene todo en sus manos y lo que deberá pasar, lo pasará.   Estaré en comunicación con ustedes sobre cómo siga todo.
